This roughly 1-second exposure from West Liddell Creek near the California Coast in 2004 displays fascinating patterns in the sun reflections. Those reflections transition from smooth to periodic to chaotic.

Signature of the Sun: Stripes

In a time exposure taken in the outflow of a small waterfall along the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge, I found cyclic and dotted patterns. 2004.

Signature of the Sun: Wake

Another image from the Columbia River Gorge, I was fascinated by the wake (bottom left) formed off the point of this rock as water passes over it from the upper-right. I shot dozens of frames of this scene from a low-set tripod in order to be sure I captured interesting "signature" patterns as well as placing that wake well. I was surprised to find the patterns in the lower-right in one of the better images, as some viewers have suggested that the patterns there resemble a signature of my own first name.  2004.
