North Coast Redwoods - June 22-23, 2013

Coast Redwoods are the tallest trees on the planet, and they reach their greatest majesty along the north coast of California, in the forests of Redwood National Park and a series of state parks which predate federal protection. We will spend two long summer days of this June weekend wandering through and capturing their towering presence, in addition to some opportunities to enjoy local wildlife and coastal scenes. Lodging in Crescent City not included in workshop price, contact the instructor for equipment and lodging recommendations. We will also meet for 2-3 hours the following weekend to share and review work from the workshop. Registration is now open at PhotoCentral! $235, slightly cheaper for Hayward-area residents.

Quick Take: Introduction to Developing Photographs with Lightroom - September 15, 5-8pm

Curious about Lightroom, or have it but feel a little lost on how to get started bringing images to life? This quick class will show you much of what can be done with Lightroom's image development, and at the same time, provide some tips for how to methodically approach using Lightroom's vast numbers of controls, so that you can get from a raw capture to a finished image quickly and efficiently. Quick Take: Introduction to Photoshop Layers for Photographers - October 27, 5-8pm

Do you have and use Photoshop, but get lost when it comes to knowing what layers, blending modes, and layers masks can do? Would you like to learn how to effectively make selective adjustments to your images, and better yet, do so in a way that lets you come back to the image later, perhaps even years later, and "undo" the mistakes you've made? Want to learn how to create effective and natural looking images of high-contrast scenes that don't have "that HDR look?" This short introduction to the power of Photoshop's layers tools, aimed at beginning and intermediate Photoshop users, will answer these questions and more. Sorry, registration through PhotoCentral is not yet open.

November in Yosemite: The Quiet Month - November 9-10, 2013

Yosemite's stark winters, glorious spring, colorful autumn and overcrowded summers are well known, but for a short time in the late fall every year, the valley gets quieter as winter threatens. Our conditions could range from the first powdering of snow, mists, or perhaps even unusually late access into the High Sierra, the one thing we're certain of is to get a chance to enjoy one of the crown jewels of America's National Park system. Bring your camera, tripod, hiking shoes and creativity for two days of photographic fun! The workshop will also include a review session at PhotoCentral before or after the November Sunday Photo Group meeting in Hayward. Sorry, registration through PhotoCentral is not yet open.
