Memories of Ancient Forest

It all started when…

From my first visit to California’s amazing coast redwoods forests almost forty years ago, I have felt a deep, powerful connection to the strength, age, and magic of those lands, in ways I’ve have struggled to bring to life in a photographic print.

I’ve done it.

My first step toward achieving my vision was discovering monochrome infrared photography about a decade back, modifying existing gear to see the invisible glow that emanates from living foliage, highlighting the dense forest understory, revealing the texture of the giant columnar trunks.

I began to collect these images when conditions were right, and over years I still searched inside myself and in the world before meeting Allen McKinney. A master darkroom and digital printer for decades, Allen was sincerely taken by my prints, and he introduced me to platinum-palladium prints. His first draft prints were a revelation, the feeling I was looking for was there.

Even then, It took a couple years to wrestle the project to its culmination—a tight seven-image body of work that sings of the magic of California’s magical coast redwood lands. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
